A major milestone was marked by the highly successful Football for Future project this week when it was announced that more than 10,000 young people from the North Al Batinah region have now benefitted from the programme.

Funded by a quartet of Oman’s most socially responsible companies, the Football for Future programme is currently being delivered in schools throughout the North Al Batinah. The project, which commenced in September last year uses football to deliver a range of key healthy lifestyle messages to young children including the importance of a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and being a good citizen. The children are also warned about the dangers of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs whilst being advised on the importance of road safety.

The sponsors, Nawras, ORPIC, Sohar Aluminium and Vale, are working with a UK company, Kickworldwide to deliver the programme which recently entered its second phase with the aim to create more than 1500 young leaders from the 13 to 16 year olds in the region.

It was at the Al Forqan school at Al Hail Al Jadeeda in Saham when the milestone of 10,000 beneficiaries was achieved to the delight of the school, Kickworldwide and of course the sponsors.

The school was presented with a special commemorative certificate by the delivery team on behalf of the sponsors after the healthy living presentation at the school on earlier this month.

Said Al Masoudi, Acting CEO of Sohar Aluminiumsaid “Sohar Aluminium is proud to be associated with this project and we are quite happy to see this major milestone being achieved. The Omani youth are extremely passionate about football and using that as a medium to promote good values in them will ensure that the lessons they learn through this programme are with them to stay. We look forward to the continued success of the Outreach programme.

“The love of football in Oman is evident by the number of young people that have benefitted from this programme. To be able to provide opportunities through the Kickworldwide initiative for sporting achievement and personal development for as many as 10,000 children is something Orpic is very proud to be part of” stated Orpic’s General Manager Corporate Support Services, Dr Hilal Al Hinai, “especially when these young people are empowered to become competent and confident leaders in our society.
Kickworldwide Director Steve Bellis commented “It is clearly a major achievement for any programme to involve this many young people. It is very rewarding for everyone involved to know that the programme has had such a huge impact and we hope to continue to deliver at this incredible rate. I am particularly delighted for all our friends at Nawras, ORPIC, Sohar Aluminium and Vale, as without their support this programme could not operate. It is also a fabulous achievement for the delivery team who are working tirelessly to spread these important messages”
