One of Afghanistan’s leading broadcaster 1TV, has secured the rights to the Soccer Prince for three years with the first show scheduled for Spring 2014.

Launched in 2010, award winning 1TV already boasts an array of original content including Kabul Debate Live, the nation’s first live-broadcast debate programme and internationally acclaimed programme The Mask, providing Afghan women with the opportunity to anonymously discuss the issue of domestic abuse.

1TV has already shown its intent in relation to sport content with its coverage of La Liga and its exclusive broadcast of the Afghanistan v Pakistan cricket match at the beginning of December 2013 which broke the market share record of 75%, making it the single most watched TV show in Afghan history and cementing 1TV as the leader in Afghan television.

1TV’s founder and president, Fahim Hashimy, expressed his delight at acquiring the leading football format “We are looking very much forward to launch the Soccer Prince in Afghanistan. We believe in supporting young talents in Afghanistan and sport has always united our country. The winner will spend a year in Liverpool and get the opportunity to train at Liverpool FC’s Academy. We are very happy and proud that 1TV will be a part of that”.

Kickworldwide Director, Steve Bellis explained the importance of the show to the company “Soccer Prince Afghanistan is much more than a reality TV show, it is an opportunity to change the lives of a number of young people and assist with the long term development of the game in Afghanistan. It has been an absolute pleasure to deal with 1TV Vice President Andreas Wilmers and we are convinced that we have the most ambitious and professional partners in this exciting region. It is no secret that there was other broadcaster interest but 1TV stood out and we are looking forward to our long term relationship with them.

1TV, who have also acquired the rights to Afghanistan’s Got Talent (also produced by Kickworldwide’s format partners Fremantlemedia) will commence pre-production in January.
