Manor Farm gets official approval
There was a very special guest at the official launch of the FDCD International Football Academy at Manor Farm.
Deputy Consul General Mr Lai Bo, made the short journey from the Consulate in Manchester to officially launch the Academy which is the first of its kind dedicated to the development of Chinese grassroots football.
Consul Lai made a stirring speech emphasising the importance of the relationship between the UK and China to fulfil the dreams of developing a successful grassroots football programme in his country.
The FDCD academy is the first Anglo/Sino academy and will focus on delivering a range of on and off field programmes with the first full time students expected in September 2017.
Consul Lai said ‘I am delighted to be here representing the Consulate General Dr Sun at the opening of this important centre and I can assure FDCD that they will receive all the support they need from Consulate. Football is a great sport that is extremely important to both our countries and we look forward to working with FDCD to make this academy a success’
Consul Lai also showed his own skills when it came to the official opening. Rather than cut a ceremonial ribbon, Mr Lai opted to score the first goal at the academy from the penalty spot.
This was a brave move with television crews from the BBC and China Central Television in attendance but he did not disappoint coolly stroking home from the spot.
Consul Lai scored to the delight of the esteemed guests
